Our High School Biology course was developed using both the South Carolina State Standards and the National Science Teachers Association’s Next Generation Science Standards.   While the overall structure and topics covered in this course are similar to the Middle School Life Science Course, this course is far more in depth with higher learning and application expectations.  There are five main topics in this course: 1) The Nature of Science; 2) Cells, Cellular Components, and Cellular life processes; 3) DNA, RNA, and Heredity; 4) Evolution; and 5) Ecology.  Due to its importance and fundamental basis, the Nature of Science is covered as a separate unit and then revisited throughout the year as other topics are covered.
