Environmental Science is unique because unlike the other science classes, the students get to see how complicated issues are because there are social, political and economic implications to most of the concepts learned in this class. The primary theme of this class is sustainability and the four main principles of sustainability; reliance on energy, biodiversity, population control, and nutrient cycling. Initially, the class will review and build on some of the important concepts learned in Biology and Chemistry classes, such as matter, chemical reactions, thermodynamics, ecology, biodiversity, evolution. Then the class will examine the complexity and the function of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and the impact of human activities on these ecosystems. Lastly, we will explore solutions to enable us to live sustainably in our environment.
