Math

Middle School Math: (6th grade or others assigned to this course)

Holt McDougal Mathematics Grade 6. Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company, 2012. ISBN 9780547647166. Look on AbeBooks.com or Amazon. (Amazon prices for good condition $12-$20 on May 28, 2020—click on “new and used from…” instead of picking the expensive book that shows up first). Easiest to find by going to the site and typing in ISBN #.

Pre-Algebra: (7th grade or others assigned to this course)

Holt McDougal Larson Pre-algebra. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company 2012. ISBN 9780547587776. This book has a picture of a female soccer player on the front (careful—so does the 2011 version). Shop around for this one; lots of companies have a couple copies around $40 and other copies for higher prices. Search “Holt McDougal Larson Pre-algebra 2012” to find the cheapest price (Amazon may or may not be cheapest—don’t pay $75 for this book!)

Easiest to find by going to the site and typing in the ISBN number.

High School History Classes:

Ancient History

Textbook options for this course are still being reviewed. Please check back in July.

American History I, Beginnings to the Civil War (Some juniors)

T.Bailey/ D.Kennedy/L Cohen The American Pageant 12th edition

ISBN-10: 9990817545

ISBN-13: 978-9990817546

There are a lot of used copies of this book available on Amazon starting for around eight dollars. Students MUST have this book, because I will give them a copy of the other book we use. This is the book I used last year and the book that Mr. Bonds uses for the second American history class, so students should be able to use it for two years.

A note from Dr Simmons: When it comes to books, my experience has been that students who have and use physical copies of books will do better in my classes than students who try to read on their phones or tablets – devices simply provide too many distractions. The texts below are mandatory for each of these classes, but all are older and used copies of every one of these is available for less than $10 on Amazon (and other places I’m sure). Don’t wait though – many colleges use some of these texts too (especially the English books) so they’ll start going soon.
